Earlier today I gave an introductory seminar on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom at the Nottingham and Notts Photographic Society, and thought it would be useful to provide links to some of the resources I mentioned during the tutorial. I have created a set of “cheat sheets” showing keyboard shortcuts in each of the Lightroom modules [downloads no longer available – sorry!]. And here are some other links which may prove useful…
- Adobe has an official Photoshop Lightroom product page, user-to-user discussion forum, support page, and “Community Help System“
- Matt Kloskowski’s Lightroom Killer Tips is full of useful tips and offers presets for download too
- Lightroom News – a useful site that’s updated regularly. Has tutorials, podcasts, updates and links to other resources
- Lightroom Extra doesn’t seem to be updated as often as some of the other sites, but has some useful downloads including Identity Plates, web gallery templates, print templates, and some other extras that may be of interest to more advanced users
- There are plenty of free presets for the Develop module on Inside Lightroom
- onOne Software also have some free Develop module presets available, along with tutorial videos showing how to use them
- If it’s podcasts you’re after, check out George Jardine’s and Matt Kloskowski’s
Most of the pages have links to more resources, so you could probably spend all day clicking around and learning loads of cool stuff. If you were at the seminar and want to ask me any more questions (or even if you weren’t there and just want to ask me anyway) then feel free to drop me a line and I’ll do my best to help you out.
I think I have looked everywhere to find an answer to my problem… I created too many libraries and it is very difficult to find my images. Now that I understand how LR works I understand the big mistake I made… is there a way to export Lightroom Database.lrcat and create a new library without loosing all the info. that I have created?
I understand also that one should not have more than 10 thousand images per library is this correct? So I would have to create very specific libraries (ej: , architectural, portraits etc.)
Hi Ricardo – you can merge all your existing catalogues into one, keeping all your ratings etc. Just open the catalogue you want to be your main one and click ‘File > Import from Catalog’. You can then select one of your other catalogues (.lrcat files) and import it into your main catalogue. Once you’ve imported all your other catalogues, everything will be in the same place.
I ly have about 15,000 images in my main catalogue at the moment, and Lightroom seems to cope fine with that. Adobe themselves say in their knowledgebase that “There is no known maximum number of photos you can store in a Photoshop Lightroom library. Your computer might run out of address space for your photos between 100,000 and 1,000,000 photos.”
Regards,
Haydn
100,000-1,000,000 is a fairly wide f**king goal to be shooting at. You sure you’re not just making that up?
Hey, I’m just the messenger! Talk to Adobe! :)
