The Slackers

Written by Haydn Williams

I went to my first gig for nearly eighteen months last week, and as usual the Slackers put on an a show which was truly a pleasure to watch.

The great thing about the Slackers is that they’re obviously musicians rather than just people who play instruments. Much as I love punk rock, I’m not convinced the majority of people playing in the genre could be called truly skilled craftsmen. That’s why it’s nice to see a group of band-mates on stage just having fun and at the same time showing proper workmanship.

It was also the first time I’ve taken a camera to a gig for a very long time, and it was good to get back into the swing of things. With no proper pit I only ran off a couple of quick snaps from amongst enthusiastic dancing people, but with a re-launch of Punk Rock Portraits on the cards within the next couple of months hopefully I’ll be doing a lot more in the near future.
