This is the brief story of a day out in Eryri. I parked at Ogwen, put the car on to charge, then set off up towards Bochlwyd…
I just about got away without using my headtorch, and made it to Bwlch Tryfan as it started getting properly light…
From there I picked up the Paddy route over Tryfan, donning my running crampons for the little catwalk at the summit, then dropped off the other side…
Everything looked very rime-covered from below, and snowy from above – and said powdery snow made everything hard work because you had no idea what configuration of rocks your feet were going to sink down onto…
A delicate descent to the first notch on the north ridge followed, and then I turned left into the west gully…
Although moving slower than anticipated because of the snow conditions, I reckoned I still had time to check out Pen yr Ole Wen on the other side of the valley…
Turned out that Pen yr Ole Wen was also snowy….
With time running out, I descended the south-west ridge which was just as steep and awkward as I remembered, and I regretted my choice bitterly…
The End.
