Last glimpse of summer

I managed to get out for a quick blast on the bike around the Kitchener Loop on Wednesday afternoon. The unseasonably warm and dry weather has meant that Sherwood Pines hasn’t yet turned into the quagmire it so quickly transforms into under the onslaught of autumn downpours. The trails were running nicely, the sun shone brightly through the trees, and the bike performed flawlessly. There’s been a lot of work done laying down hardcore in preparation for the winter, particularly through the boggy sections in the tightest bits of pine plantation. I managed to get around the 15km in under an hour, so I think next time it’ll be two laps I’m aiming for.

The only concession to the fact that September was ending was the fact that the sun dipped below the horizon far earlier than I felt it ought to. But that just means it’s nearly the season for night riding and cold crisp mornings – maybe the end of summer isn’t necessarily bad news after all…
